Apple CarPlay Works, Costs and Effectiveness

Apple CarPlay Works, Costs and Effectiveness

Apple CarPlay is a feature in new car stereos and certain aftermarket car stereos that lets you control and view certain iPhone- or iPad-based apps, including mobile map navigation, from your dashboard media system.

How does it work?

The vast majority of CarPlay integrations (even in today's newer cars) require you to connect your iOS device to the car using a Lightning cable to activate an icon on the car's display. Once you've selected it, the rest is as simple as an iPhone menu. Wireless CarPlay has started to appear in some BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz models with built-in Wi-Fi.

The stated goal of CarPlay is to make it safer for you to use your device while driving, so it shifts control to the car's display, which works best with a touchscreen, although cars with separate controls for operating non-touch displays also support CarPlay.

CarPlay supports a growing number of apps, primarily streaming audio services such as Pandora, Slacker Radio, and SiriusXM Radio, and the system displays a familiar iOS icon and menu structure on the dashboard.

Can I add it?

Unless you buy an aftermarket stereo, the chances of adding CarPlay to your car are very, very slim.

However, that's not the case anymore. Nunoo specializes in the research, development and sales of car DVD players, car radios and car stereos, providing professional and efficient one-stop service from design, mold making, hardware, software, production to shipment. We are one of the few Apple CarPlay manufacturers, and our aftermarket products include a wide range of car audio receivers, officially licensed Apple Linux systems with CarPlay and Android Auto features, and more. You can absolutely choose any CARPLAY you like to add to your car.

How much does it cost?

CarPlay may be optional or only available in upgraded media systems or higher trim levels. CarPlay itself doesn't use data, so if you play music stored on your iPhone, data usage should be negligible. However, if you use a streaming audio or navigation app, it uses the same amount of data as if the phone was located in the dock but not connected to CarPlay.

How does it work?

Both CarPlay and Android Auto work well, but sometimes they can be glitchy and seem to vary depending on the car and phone involved. If both are running proven operating systems and firmware, they are usually very stable.

We're not quite sure how future phones will work with the earliest CarPlay-enabled vehicles. If processor demands increase, older models may not be able to cope. Hopefully Apple will take this into account.

In addition to APPLE CARPLAY, we also have ANDROID car stereos for sale. Please click to contact us for more information.
